Woman discovers her "friend" broke into her house and stole a piece of memento jewelry after catching her on social media wearing the pendant to a concert: 'She had my JEWELRY on!'

Good thieves are never caught. And good thieves never flaunt their friend's stolen jewelry on social media for all to see, so the woman in this next story must not be very good at her hobby. Spending her free time as a cat burglar, this woman was so overly confident in her friend's dimwittedness that she broke into her house, stole a memento, and publicly flaunted her winnings online. Well, after getting caught red-handed, things took a turn really quickly.

Sentimental pieces are often irreplaceable from the jewelry cabinet, and thus, are far more important to the one to whom they belong. Therefore, these memento items are unforgettable and very recognizable. So when this woman saw her friend's Instagram story of her at a concert wearing her beloved lost necklace, she flipped out. For all the right reasons, this friendship came to a screeching halt, and luckily didn't end in a jail sentence after all the details came out.

    QuietNight3112 OP. I actually have gotten it back - as a result of directly requesting it from her. However, I'm not sure how the jewelry left my property in the first place. I DO know, and there is a report of her being on my property without consent earlier in the year, AND a second instance where a break in was reported and the police documented that as well. I didn't realize this particular piece of jewelry was missing at the time.

    Physical-Bear2156 An ex-friend? I'd report it to the police and describe the jewellery in detail. Better still, provide pics if you have them. You may not get the jewellery back, but it'll make wearing it a distinct liability.

    QuietNight3112 OP I had been looking for it in the sense that it was a part of the concert vibe - it has a very specific theme, but I assumed it was tucked away somewhere. I didn't consider that it was NOT in my house somewhere. If it had not shown up on her neck I would have assumed I lost it if it didn't turn up. Does that make sense?

    the selfie with her was involved in its purchase so she reached out and asked specifically it was mine. She verified it to be mine. I have gotten it back but I am left feeling really "icky" about the entitlement that shows to wear someone's jewelry.

    Then compounded by the fact that she's been on my property unannounced and without consent makes me realize the significance of the criminal element of her behavior. So, that's why I tossed it out on this board to see what others might think in the same situation.

    MissHibernia ⚫ I would immediately confront her, have the person I was with take phone pictures, demand my stuff back, and if they refused, I would file a police report. Document everything with times, dates, etc. If told by the police/district attorney that there isn't enough evidence for a criminal prosecution, I would go after them in civil court for the return of my property and court costs.
